Ingredients
1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based like almond, oat, or full-fat coconut milk for extra creaminess)
1 tsp ground turmeric (or 1-inch fresh, grated turmeric root)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger (or 1/2-inch fresh, grated ginger)
Pinch of black pepper (essential for absorption)
1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for a cozy flavor)
1 tsp coconut oil or ghee (optional, adds healthy fats and enhances creaminess)
Directions
Combine ingredients: In a small saucepan, whisk together the milk, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and optional coconut oil or ghee.
Heat gently: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, whisking occasionally to ensure the spices are well-blended and do not clump at the bottom. Do not let it come to a full boil.
Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for about 5 to 10 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
Sweeten and strain: Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in your chosen sweetener and vanilla extract, if using. For a smoother texture, pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into your mug, especially if you used fresh or whole spices.
Serve: Enjoy warm, perhaps with an extra sprinkle of cinnamon on top. You can also use a milk frother or an immersion blender to create a frothy, latte-style foam before serving.
