Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Ingredients:

1 cup sourdough discard (unfed)

3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups chocolate chips or chunks

1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

Instructions: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13" baking dish with parchment. In a large mixing bowl, blend melted butter with both sugars until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, stirring until fully combined. Mix in the sourdough discard. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly incorporate the dry mix into the wet ingredients until just mixed. Fold in chocolate chips and optional walnuts. Evenly spread the batter in your prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift and slice into bars.
