* 12 King's Hawaiian sweet rolls
* 1 tablespoon (14 g) unsalted butter, melted, for the pan
* 1/3 cup (75 g) unsalted butter, melted
* 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
* 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
* 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
* 8 ounces (225 g) full-fat cream cheese, softened * 1 large egg, lightly beaten
* 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and brush a 9x13-inch baking dish or sheet pan with the 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
2. Place the 12 sweet rolls in the pan, keeping them close together.
3. Use a small knife to cut an X into the top of each roll, going about two-thirds of the way down without cutting through the bottom.
4. Gently pull the four corners apart slightly to make a small well in the center of each roll.
5. In a small bowl, stir together the 1/3 cup melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
6. Spoon or brush the spiced butter mixture evenly over the tops, letting it drip into the cuts and around the rolls.
7. In a medium bowi, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
8. Add the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and beaten egg, then mix until creamy and fully combined.
9. Spoon or pipe the cheesecake filling into the center of each roll, filling each opening generously. 10. Bake uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes, until the filling is set and the tops are lightly golden. 11. Let the danishes cool for 2 to 3 minutes before serving warm.
