Old Fashioned Chicken and Dumplings (classic & Cozy

Chicken Base
2 lbs bone-in chicken thighs or breasts
6 cups chicken broth
1 tbsp butter
1 small onion, diced
2 carrots, sliced
2 celery stalks, sliced
Salt & black pepper
½ tsp poultry seasoning (optional)
Old Fashioned Dumplings
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¾ cup milk
2 tbsp melted butter
Directions
Cook the Chicken
In a large pot, add chicken, broth, onion, carrots, celery, salt & pepper.
Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer 25 minutes until chicken is tender.
Remove chicken, shred it, and return it to the pot.
Make the Dumpling Dough
In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder & salt.
Stir in milk and melted butter until a soft dough forms.
Add the Dumplings
Drop spoonfuls of dough into the simmering broth.
Cover and cook 15 minutes — DO NOT LIFT THE LID.
Finish
Stir gently once.
Adjust seasoning if needed.
Serve hot.
