Gingerbread

1/2 cup shortening
2 T. sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses
1 cup boiling water
2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
Directions
Mix shortening, sugar, and egg. Then add molasses and boiling water. Stir flour, soda, salt, ginger, and cinnamon together. Then stir in. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 9 pan. Bake at 325 for 45 - 50 minutes. Serve hot with sweetened whipped cream.
Notes
This was an old family favorite. We ate lots of whipped cream.
