Mussels Marinara

2 lb fresh mussels, cleaned
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
8 cloves garlic minced
28 oz canned diced tomatoes preferably San Marzano
2 tsp red pepper flakes
0.5 cup fresh basil chopped
Directions
Rinse and scrub the mussels under cold water, discarding any that remain open after tapping.
In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute).
Add diced tomatoes and red pepper flakes; simmer for 3 minutes.
Stir in the prepared mussels, cover the pot, and steam for about 5 minutes or until all mussels have opened.
Remove from heat; stir in freshly chopped basil.
Serve immediately in bowls with sauce, alongside crusty bread or pasta.
