Red lentil Daal

225g (8oz) red lentils
350ml (12 fl oz) water
1.25ml (1/4 tsp) ground turmeric 5ml (1 tsp) ground coriander
1 green chilli, cut in half
Salt to taste
4-6 canned tomatoes, chopped
2 sprigs fresh green coriander leaves, chopped
50g (2oz) butter
1 small onion, peeled and finely chopped
Directions
Wash the lentils in 3-5 changes of water.
Put the lentils into a pan with the 350ml (12 fl oz) water, cover and cook over a low hear for 10-15 minutes. Remove ans froth with a spoon.
Once the lentils are render and yellow, blend until smooth with an egg whisk.
Add the turmeric, ground coriander, chilli, salt to taste and chopped tomatoes. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes
Add the coriander leaves and pour into a dish. Keep warm.
Melt the butter in a frying pan and saute the garlic until golden brown.
Pour the garlic and butter juices over the daal Serve with rice or bread.
