Cheesy Cabbage with Bacon & Italian Sausage

Ingredients

6 slices of bacon, chopped

1 small white onion, diced

1 heaping tablespoon garlic, minced

1 lb Italian sausage (bulk or casings removed)

1 medium head of cabbage, chopped

1 cup half and half

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Garlic salt, to taste

Italian seasoning, to taste

Black pepper, to taste

Red chili flakes, to taste

Directions

**Cook the Bacon:**

In a large Dutch oven, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Once done, remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the rendered bacon fat in the pot.

**Sauté the Onion:**

Add the diced onion to the pot with the bacon fat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft and translucent (about 5-7 minutes).

**Add Garlic:**

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

**Cook the Sausage:**

Add the Italian sausage to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until the sausage is browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.

**Add Cabbage:**

Stir in the chopped cabbage. Cover the pot and let it cook down for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is softened.

**Finish the Dish:**

Pour in the half and half and stir to combine. Add the shredded mozzarella cheese and stir until the cheese is melted and the mixture is creamy.

**Season and Add Bacon:**

Return the cooked bacon to the pot. Season with garlic salt, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and red chili flakes to taste. Stir everything together and let cook on low heat for an additional 5 minutes to blend the flavors.

**Serve:**

Once everything is well-mixed and heated through, remove from heat and serve hot. Enjoy your hearty and creamy cabbage dish with bacon, Italian sausage, and mozzarella!
