2 x 450g packs beef mince

1 large onion, finely chopped

3 garlic cloves, crushed

1 carrot, coarsely grated

2 celery sticks, finely chopped

400g can chopped tomatoes

2 tbsp tomato purée

2 tsp dried oregano

200ml red wine

100ml full-fat milk

300ml beef stock, hot

1. Brown the mince in a large frying pan over a high heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Add the mince to the slow cooker along with all of the remaining ingredients, and stir well to break up the mince.

2. Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on the high setting for 6 hours (stirring occasionally, if you are around), until you have a thick, luscious sauce. Check the seasoning and serve with spaghetti and shavings of Parmesan.
