CHEX MIX - CLASSIC RECIPE (MY INTERPRETATION)

THIS MAKES A TRIPLE RECIPE! BUT IT NEVER EVER GOES TO WASTE!!!

1 Family Size Box Rice Chex. (14 C)

1 Family Size Box Corn Chex. (14 C)

3 C Wheat Chex (nobody likes wheat Chex)

1 X 8.9 Oz Box. Cheerios (9 C)

7 C Pretzel sticks (thinner is better)

4 C Mixed nuts (I prefer the kind w/o peanuts)

24 Tbsp Butter (3 sticks!)

5 Oz.+. Worcestershire Sauce

2 1/2 Tbsp Lawry's Season Salt

2 Tbsp Garlic Powder (not salt)

2 Tbsp Onion Powder (not salt)

Obviously this makes a huge amount. You can do the math to make smaller quantities. This recipe as listed requires my biggest blue roasting pan.

The quantities for a single batch are indicated in the notes.

Melt the butter and add Worcestershire sauce, Lawry's, garlic and onion powders and whisk together.

Combine all the Chex cereals, Cheerios, pretzels, and nuts in a LARGE roaster. I've also used my huge mixing bowl that is too large for anything else.

Drizzle butter mixture over the dry ingredients, stopping to stir and coat as much as possible.

Roast at 250F for 1 1/4 hours, removing it from the oven every 15 minutes to gently stir everything. This ensures that by the end, everything is pretty much coated.

Let cool and store in airtight container.

Come on! It's Chex mix, the preparation is pretty self-evident.

I like my Chex Mix pretty well seasoned. You may be too delicate for these bold flavors, so adjust seasonings as you desire.

I've modified the quantities to take advantage of using the entire Family Size Boxes of Rice and Corn Chex. Otherwise I end up with 2 Cups left over in each box that I end up tossing. It's bad enough that I toss the rest of the smallest box of Wheat Chex I can buy.

SINGLE BATCH QUANTITIES:

Rice and Corn Chex 4 C each

Wheat Chex 1 C

Cheerios. 3 C

Pretzels. 2 C

Mixed Nuts. 1 C

Butter. 6 Tbsp

Worcestershire. 40 ml. (2 Tbsp + more to taste (I add 2 tsp more))

Lawry's 2 tsp

Garlic powder and Onion powder. 1 1/2 tsp each
