Stuffed Mozzarella Onion Rings

2 large onions

Mozzarella cheese (block or sticks)

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons cornmeal

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon chili powder (optional)

½ cup water (for batter)

For coating

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko is best)

For frying

Oil (for deep frying)

Prepare the onion rings

Peel the onion and cut it into thick slices

Separate into rings

Pair a large ring with a smaller ring (to create space)

Filling with cheese

Cut the mozzarella into thin strips

Place the cheese between two onion rings

Seal gently

Batter Make

Mix flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, chili powder

Add water slowly to make a thick smooth batter

Coat

Dip the stuffed onion rings in the batter

Coat well with breadcrumbs

Repeat batter + breadcrumbs for extra crunch

Freeze (Important)

Freeze for 30-45 minutes

Prevents cheese from leaking

Fry

Heat oil over medium heat

Fry until golden brown and crispy

Drain on paper towels

Tips

For the best cheese pull, use low-moisture mozzarella

Do not fry over high heat
