½ Cup Butter

½ Cup Shortening

1 Cup Powdered Sugar, Sifted

1 Egg

1½ Tsp Almond Extract

1 Tsp Vanilla

2½ Cups Flour, Sifted

1 Tsp Salt

1. Sift together flour and salt; Mix ½ cup crushed peppermints candy with ½cup sugar.

2. In large bowl, mix together butter, shortening, powdered sugar, egg, Almond Extract, and vanilla.

3. Add dry ingredients a little at a time and blend well.

4. Repeat recipe, adding 1 tsp red food color to second batch.

5. Roll 1 tsp each color into strips about 4 in. long. Place side by side and press litly together and twist.

6. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

7. Bake about 9 min at 375° remove from oven and wile warm sprinkle with candy/sugar mixture.
