Cheesy Smothered Chicken

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
1 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
½ cup cooked bacon bits (or 4 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled)
½ cup chopped green onions (optional)
½ cup heavy cream or 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
Season chicken with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sear the chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden.
Transfer chicken to the baking dish.
In the same skillet, add mushrooms (if using) and sauté for 2 minutes. Stir in the cream or soup until warm.
Pour the creamy mixture over the chicken, then top with cheese and bacon.
Bake uncovered for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Garnish with green onions, serve warm, and enjoy!
Tips:
Try adding a sprinkle of paprika or smoked seasoning for extra flavor.
Serve with mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, or buttered noodles.
