Ingredients

1/2 cup Toor dal, soaked

2 tbsp Moong dal, soaked

Water for boiling

1 tsp Turmeric powder

¼ tsp red chilli powder (For color only)

¼ tsp Asafoetida

Salt to taste (Just right)

1 tbsp Ghee

1 tsp Mustard Oil (Optional)

Directions

  1. Soak Toor Dal (1/2 cup), and Moong Dal (2 tbsp) for 20 mins in water.

  2. Heat ghee / Mustard Oil in a pressure cooker.

  3. Add Jeera, dried chillies, onions and fry.

  4. Add Toor dal (1/2 cup) and moong dal (2 tbsp) to the pressure cooker and roast for 2-3 minutes.

  5. Add in tomato, ginger or ginger garlic, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt. Mix well. Taste here for salt should be right amount of salty.

  6. Add water, cover and allow to cook for 3 whistles.

  7. (Optional) Add spinach here, and cook again for 5 mins.

Notes

1:2 for thicker dal. 1:3 for thinner
