Ingredients

1 lb pork shoulder

3 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp shaoxing wine

½ tsp sesame oil

1½ tbsp honey

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg white

1 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp hoisin sauce

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp white pepper

½ tsp five spice powder

8 red food coloring (optional, for classic color)

Optional Side: Chinese broccoli

Directions

In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, shaoxing wine, sesame oil, honey, garlic, sugar, hoisin sauce, salt, white pepper, five spice powder, and red food coloring if using.

Add the pork shoulder to the bowl and coat well. Marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for best flavor.

Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).

Place the marinated pork in the air fryer basket. Brush with some of the leftover marinade and air fry for 14 minutes, flipping and brushing once halfway through.

Let the pork rest for a few minutes, then thinly slice.

Notes

Serve over a bowl of rice. Optionally pair with Chinese broccoli.
