Italian Soft Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup milk

Glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar

3–4 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract

Christmas sprinkles

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy.

Add eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Beat until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients alternately with milk, mixing until soft sticky dough forms.

Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and gently roll into balls (dough will be soft).

Place on baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes, or until set but NOT browned.

Cool completely before glazing.

For glaze: mix powdered sugar, milk, and extract until smooth and pourable.

Dip tops of cookies into glaze and top with Christmas sprinkles.

Let glaze set before serving.
