Onions: 2 large, finely chopped
Garlic: 4 cloves, minced
Baby potatoes: 500 g (1.1 lbs), halved
Carrots: 3 medium, cut into large chunks
Dry red wine: 350 ml (1.5 cups)
Beef broth: 500 ml (2 cups)
Tomato paste: 1 tbsp
Salt: to taste
Freshly ground black pepper: to taste
Olive oil: 3 tbsp
Brown or white sugar: 1 tsp
All-purpose flour: 2 tbsp
Bay leaves: 2
Fresh sage: 5 leaves
Fresh parsley or cilantro: for garnish
