Easy Spicy Edamame Recipe

1 bag frozen edamame (16 ounces, not shelled - raw can be used - see NOTES)
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon sambal oelek
3 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon mirin
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra spicy)
½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Directions
Boil
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add edamame and cook 3–4 minutes, until heated through and bright green. Alternatively, microwave in a bowl for 3 minutes or steam. Drain.
Oil
Heat sesame oil in a small pan over medium. Add sambal oelek, garlic and ginger and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
Bowl
Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in soy sauce, mirin, red pepper flakes (if using), and salt.
Serve
Toss in warm edamame and mix well. Serve immediately.
