1 lb ground turkey
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup carrot, grated
Sauce
1 cup tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon mustard powder
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
4-6 gourmet hamburger buns, toasted
Directions
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté until the vegetables are tender and slightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and grated carrot to the skillet, and cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant. Add the ground turkey, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until the turkey is no longer pink and is starting to brown, about 8-10 minutes.
Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and mustard powder. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should thicken and the flavors will meld together. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Spoon the turkey mixture onto the toasted buns. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a fresh flavor and a touch of color.
For an extra gourmet touch, consider adding a slice of aged cheddar cheese on top of the hot turkey mixture, allowing it to melt slightly before serving. You can also serve these with a side of coleslaw or a simple green salad to round out the meal.
