1 cup medium grain white rice
1 1/2 cups filtered water
1/2 teaspoon Tumeric powder
Fresh pepper
1 tbsp bone broth
1 tbsp coconut oil
Directions
Instructions
1. Rinse the rice in clean water.
2. Add the washed rice + the filtered water, turmeric powder, pepper, Gevity broth and coconut oil into a saucepan. Bring it up to a boil.
3. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover with the lid on Zor 15 minutes. I like to stir every 5 or so minutes so the rice doesn't stick to the bottom.
4. Remove from the heat and leave the lid on for a further 5-10 minutes.
5. Remove the lid and use a fork to fluff up the rice.
*EXTRA TIP to make your rice even more gut friendly - cool it overnight!
Notes
Allowing rice to cool overnight before eating it increases resistant starch. This type of starch is good for gut health as it feeds our beneficial bacteria in our gut. It also benefits digestion, can improve sleep, mental clarity, energy levels, reduces inflammation and helps increase the absorption of minerals. Plus cooking and cooling the rice in this way reduces its calories by up to 60% (not that I believe in counting calories, I just think this fact is very cool!).
I recommend preparing a few cups of rice at the start of the week so you can have gut friendly rice ready to go. I love serving it alongside homemade curries, my slow-cooked beef cheeks (recipe is in my highlights), lamb shoulder, in homemade sushi and more. It's also delicious fried in ghee until it's golden and perfectly crunchy.
