Slice Hawaiian rolls in half. Spread some horseradish on the bottom (leave it out if you don’t want the heat). Layer some provolone and then layer roast beef on top. Sprinkle with some caramelized onions and then sprinkle with shredded Gruyère. Put the top on. Melt 3 tbls butter and mix with 1/2 tsp garlic powder and pinch of salt. Brush on the sandwiches. Sprinkle with poppy seeds (or sesame seeds) Cover in foil and bake 350 for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake 10 more minutes.
Au Jus:
2 tbls butter
2 garlic cloves chopped
1/2 cup onion chopped
2 cups beef broth
3 tbls Worcestershire
1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Melt the butter in a skillet and add the onions and garlic. Let cook until soft and tender and just starting to caramelize. Add all the other ingredients and whisk to combine. Simmer on medium for about 10 minutes, allowing to slightly reduce.
