Million Dollar Lasagna

Ingredients

1 lb Ground beef

1 lb Italian sausage

2 tsp Basil, dried

4 cloves Garlic

1 Onion

1/4 cup Parsley, fresh

1 (28 oz) can Tomatoes

1 Egg

2 (6 oz) cans Tomato paste

1 (15 oz) can Tomato sauce

12 Lasagna noodles

1/4 tsp Black pepper

1/2 tsp Fennel seeds

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp Salt

2 tbsp Sugar

3 cups Mozzarella cheese

3/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

16 oz Ricotta cheese

1/2 cup Water

Directions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, cook ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until meat is browned. Drain excess fat.

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, pepper, and parsley. Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

While the sauce simmers, cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and salt.

To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles over the sauce. Spread with half of the ricotta mixture. Top with 1 cup mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.

Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 minutes, until bubbly and golden.

Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
