1 cup unsalted butter, softened

½ cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1¾ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup cornstarch

¼ tsp salt

Vanilla Frosting

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1½–2 tbsp heavy cream or milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Pink or red food coloring (optional)

Directions

Make the Cookies

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.

Mix in vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, and salt.

Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture until a soft dough forms.

Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on baking sheet.

Gently flatten slightly with fingers or a glass.

Bake 10–12 minutes until bottoms are just set (do not brown).

Let cool completely before frosting.

Make the Frosting

Beat butter until smooth.

Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream; beat until fluffy.
