1 cup brown sugar (or 1/2 cup brown sugar + 1/2 cup white sugar)
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp maple extract or maple flavoring
1/4 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
1 tbsp butter (optional, for a richer flavor and smoother texture)
Directions
Combine the sugars and water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Bring to a simmer (not a full boil) and let it cook for about 3–5 minutes to thicken slightly.
Remove from heat and stir in the maple extract (and vanilla and/or butter if using).
Cool slightly and pour into a jar or syrup dispenser.
Notes
Storage:
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Warm slightly before serving if it thickens too much.
