Ham and Cheese Panini Recipe
Ingredients:
2 slices of rustic or sourdough bread (or use ciabatta/Italian bread)
2–3 slices of deli ham (smoked or honey ham works great)
2 slices of cheese (Swiss, cheddar, provolone, or mozzarella)
1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard or mayonnaise (optional)
1 teaspoon of butter or olive oil (for the bread)
Optional Add-ins:
Tomato slices
Baby spinach or arugula
Caramelized onions
Pickles
Directions
Preheat your panini press (or use a skillet with a heavy lid or another pan to press).
Assemble the sandwich:
Spread butter or brush olive oil on the outside of both bread slices.
Spread mustard or mayo on the inside, if using.
Layer cheese, ham, and any optional add-ins between the slices (cheese on both sides helps it melt and bind).
Grill the panini:
Place the sandwich in the panini press and close it. Grill for 3–5 minutes until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
If using a skillet, grill on one side for 2–3 minutes, press down with a heavy lid, flip, and repeat on the other side.
Serve hot. Cut in half and enjoy!
