EDIT: It was brought to my attention in one of the comments to go Google Nfigghiulata. I was shocked to see that these were originated in the village of Sortino Sicily, my maiden name is Sortino!! π³π³π³ I don't think I've ever known this. And they are usually a sweet treat made with figs. I guess my grandparents americanized them lol....no matter how you make them I'm sure they are enjoyed by all
This is a NON-KETO FOOD recipe
I grew up eating this Sicilian food and my children love eating them as much as I did!
It was so much fun watching my mom and dad make these crunchy, doughy, peppery, cheesy, and oily bundles of bread. Peeling off the layers in a spiral way made it taste even better while eating them!
I only made twelve, but my parents probably made at least 50 every time they made them ππ»
I used pre-made pizza dough but you can make your own
Roll out your dough as thin as you can get it.
Drizzle with olive oil, a lot of cracked black pepper, Pecorino Romano, and chucks of Reggiano Parmesan.
Roll it up and then slice very thin sections.
Take one section and flatten with the palm of your hand, then a second and third each time rotating so all of the rings are not in the same position and flatten as well.
Directions
Place on parchment paper and drizzle more olive oil on top.
Bake in a Β°400 oven for about 20 minutes or until very golden brown and crunchy.
Leave them in the sitting oil on your pan while they cool off. They actually absorb that oil.
Yes, they are not Keto at all and if you don't like oily food, then just use less or don't eat them π
