Aunt Dorothy's Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup Crisco
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs
1/4 cup hot water
1 tsp vanilla
3.5 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup nuts
12 ounces chocolate chips
Directions
* Cream together Crisco, brown sugar, and white sugar.
* Add egg and vanilla and beat until smooth.
* In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
* Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
* Stir in chocolate chips.
* Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
* Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
* Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
* This recipe makes about 12-18 cookies
* You can substitute butter for Crisco, but the cookies will be slightly different in texture.
* For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
* You can add other ingredients to the cookies, such as chopped nuts, dried fruit, or spices.
