1 1/2 cup Rava
1/3 cup Carrot diced (optional)
1/3 cup Onion diced
1 inch Ginger finely chopped
1 Green Chilly finely chopped
1/2 tbsp Urud Dal
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
2 Dry Red Chilly broken into halves
1 stem Curry Leaves
2 tbsp Ghee
1 1/2 tbsp Cooking Oil
1/2 cup Grated Coconut
3/4 tsp Salt
1 3/4 cup Boiling Water
In a hot pan add 1 tbsp Ghee and 1 1/2 tbsp cooking oil.
Once oil hot, add mustard, once splatter add urud dal and dry red Chilly. Sauté until urud dal start to change colour.
Add curry leaves, ginger and green chilly. Sauté until raw smell is gone.
Add onion and once onions softens add carrot. (You may also add vegetables like beans as well at the same time).
Once carrot is cooked. Add sooji and continue mixing well.
Add salt and mix well.
Add water 1/4 cup at a time and stirring, breaking any balls formed and allowing to cook.
Continue the above step until all the water is added or sooji is cooked.
Add grated coconut and continue mixing.
One everything is mixed and no balls around, add 1 tbsp of ghee and mix well.
Uppumavu is ready to serve.
