Ingredients

1 pound (455 g) extra-lean ground beef

½ medium onion, chopped

1 medium green bell pepper, seeded and chopped

¾ cup (180 g) ketchup

¼ cup (57 g) barbecue sauce

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon ground mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

FOR SERVING:

Hamburger buns or rolls

Directions

I. In a large skillet on the stove top, cook the ground beef along with the onion and bell pepper until the beef is crumbled and no longer pink. Drain excess fat off and add the beef mixture to your slow cooker.

2. Add the remaining ingredients to the slow cooker and stir to combine.

3. Cover the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 2 to 4 hours.

4. Serve on your favorite hamburger buns or rolls.

Sloppy Joes are one of those classic dinner recipes that is easy on the budget and easy to make. The hardest part is browning the ground beef on the stove top before you let your slow cooker do the rest of the work simmering the sauce and letting the flavors really meld.

NOTES: The slow-cooked Sloppy Joe mixture is great to put in freezer bags and freeze for quick dinners or lunches later. All you have to do is thaw and reheat, which can even be done in the microwave.
