Silver White Cake

2 1/4 cups cake flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup milk
4 egg whites unbeaten
Directions
Sift cake flour, sugar, baking power, and salt together into a bowl. Add shortening, 2/3 c milk, vanilla and beat 2 minutes. Add 1/3 c milk and 4 egg whites and beat 2 more minutes. Pour into generously greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 for 30 - 35 min. Cool and frost with "White Mountain Icing".
Notes
This is a very good white cake. I tripled this recipe and baked Clyde and Gail's 3 tier wedding cake. I made it quite often, especially for special occasions such as birthdays or Easter.
