Crunchy Cornstarch Baked Tofu

Ingredients

400g (1 box) tofu

1 tbsp light soy sauce

1 tbsp dark soy sauce

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 tbsp brown sugar or honey

1 tbsp cornstarch

Directions

Leaving the tofu in its packet, cut the tofu into 1cm slices and freeze overnight.

Defrost tofu and marinate with 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, and 1 tbsp brown sugar for at least 30 minutes.

Place cubes, with some marinade still stuck to them, in a bowl, and toss gently with 1 tbsp of cornstarch until coated.

Arrange tofu on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake at 425 degrees (Gas Mark 7) for 25 minutes, optionally flipping halfway.

Notes

15/10/2023 - worked really well with small cubes not patted so marinade mixed with cornstarch to make super crunchy tasty tofu cubes. I know just think the regular baked ones are great lol.

14/10/2023 - I patted marinated tofu dry then tossed with cornstarch. Forgot oil and baked. Good but powdery; try not patting or adding oil to tossed cornstarch.
