Brown Sugar Spice Cake with Caramel Icing

2 c brown sugar

3/4 c butter & lard, creamed

2 eggs, beaten

1 c sm. raisins

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground cloves

1 tsp baking soda

1 c sour milk

2 1/2 c flour

Icing:

1 1/3 c brown sugar

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 c milk

3 tbsp butter

1 tsp vanilla

3 c powdered sugar

Cream sugar and shortening in a large mixing bowl.

Add eggs, spices, and raisins.

Dissolve baking soda in milk and add to mixture alternately with flour.

Pour into greased and floured cake pan and bake 350 oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until cake tests done.

Icing:

In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, salt, milk, butter and vanila and cook 5 minutes. Cool slightly. Add powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
