2 tablespoons butter

4 slices bread (rye, sourdough, or sandwich bread)

4 slices cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons mayonnaise or burger sauce

Optional:

Swiss cheese for extra flavor

Pickles for serving

Step-by-Step Instructions

1️⃣ Caramelize the Onions

In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter.

Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until soft and golden brown.

Set aside.

Cook the Beef Patties

Divide ground beef into 2 thin patties.

Cook in the skillet over medium heat for 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.

Assemble the Sandwich

Spread mayonnaise or burger sauce on one side of each bread slice.
