Apple Fritters

Fritters:

1/2 cup all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp fine table salt

1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/8 tsp allspice

1/4 cup white granulated sugar

1/3 cup whole milk

2 large eggs

1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

2 tbsp melted unsalted butter

3 tbsp applesauce

2 apples (I used honey crisp), peeled and diced

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Canola oil

Dutch Oven / deep fry pan

Glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup milk

Splash vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Whisk together dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside

In a large measuring cup or separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and splash of vanilla extract

To the milk mixture add in the melted butter and whisk

In the bowl with dry ingredients, make a small well in the center and pour the wet ingredients in the middle.

Add the apple sauce and combine all ingredients, do not overmix - just enough to moisten the batter mixture

In a separate bowl with peeled and diced apples, add the apple cider vinegar

Fold apples into the batter mixture

Fill dutch oven or deep frying pan with about an inch and half of oil and heat until it reaches 375 degrees.

Take about a quarter cup size of the apple fritter batter mixture and drop into the oil

For the glaze, mix together powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until reaches smooth consistency

Once fritters are golden brown, drop into glaze mixture and coat evenly (I use a fork to make it easier)

Let the glazed fritters rest on a wired rack until the glaze sets
