4 tbsp flour

1 cup sugar

1 cup milk

1 stick butter

dash salt

½ cup shortening

1 tsp vanilla extract, or more (I use about 3 tsp.)

Blend the flour and milk.

Cook until mixture thickens to the consistency of cream.

Cool, but don’t chill.

Cream sugar, butter, and shortening, adding salt and vanilla.

Add the slightly cooked flour mixture and continue beating until very fluffy.
