Sugar Cookies

Ingrediencie

1 c. butter, marg. or shortening

1 c. sugar

2 eggs

1 Tbsp. milk

1 tsp. vanilla

3 c. flour

3 tsp. baking powder

Postup

Cream butter & add sugar gradually. Add eggs, milk and vanilla - cream well.

Then add flour and baking powder sifted together.

Chill for 10 minutes.

Roll and cut into desired shapes.

Bake at 400 degrees until very light brown.

May be frosted or decorated with colored sugar (before baking) or just left plain.

Frosting #1: powdered sugar and liquid (milk, water, lemon juice, orange juice, etc.) and flavoring if desired

Frosting #2: powdered sugar, butter, milk, vanilla or other flavoring.

I think this is the recipe we rolled our Christmas cookies from when we were kids. We always liked to have 4 or 5 pots of frosting. Each would have it's own color and flavor. To my recollection, white was vanilla, blue was anise, yellow was lemon, red was almond, and green was peppermnint, though I'm sure it differed from year to year. -Lannie
