Honey-Grilled Flank Steak

1 (2-pound) flank steak
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon pepper
Postup
Score steak diagonally with the grain at 3/4-inch intervals. Be careful not to slice all the way through the meat.
Place the steak in a gallon-size resealable plastic freezer bag or in a shallow dish.
Combine the oil, onion, soy sauce, honey, vinegar, garlic salt, ginger, and pepper in a bowl and whisk until blended.
Pour over the steak and seal or cover. Marinate in the refrigerator 8 hours, turning occasionally.
Prepare a charcoal grill to medium-high heat (350°F to 400°F) with the rack 4 inches from the coals.
Remove the steak from the marinade, and transfer the marinade to a small pot. Bring to a boil and set aside.
Grill the steak, uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes on each side for medium-rare meat. Cook longer if desired.
Baste with the marinade for the last 5 mintues of grilling.
To serve, slice steak diagonnally across the grain.

Dolly says: "Unless you like to eat shoe leather, make sure you marinate this for at least 8 hours. The flank cut of meat needs lots of tenderizing, and the only way you're going to get that easy-to-cut steak you love is by soaking it good in a marinade. When I have leftovers, I love to put them on salad tossed with a creamy ranch dressing or between two slices of bread spread with good mayo."
