Ingredientes

225g self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting

Pinch of salt

25g caster sugar

25g cold butter, cubed if prefered

Approx. 150ml milk, plus extra for glazing

Instruções

1 Measure all of your ingredients. Preheat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan/gas mark 8. Dust a large baking tray with flour.

2 Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl, then stir in the sugar.

3 Add the butter.

4 Rub the butter in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles crumbs.

5 Add just enough milk to make a soft dough.

6 Turn onto a floured board and gently knead to remove any cracks. Roll out to 2cm in thickness.

7 Cut out scones of any shape using a pastry cutter dipped in flour.

8 Place the scones on the prepared baking tray. Brush the tops with milk. Bake on the top shelf of the oven for 8-10 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool on a wire tray.

9 Serve warm or at room temperature with butter and jam.
