Ingrediënten

Always keep a few cans of whole tomatoes in your pantry. Why? Because you can make a fresh, delicious tomato sauce like this in about 20 minutes.

You’ll need:

1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes

4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

6 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

1 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves

1 tablespoon butter

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructies

Crush the tomatoes by hand and set aside.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and cook until it just begins to turn golden.

Add the crushed tomatoes, butter, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes. Bring to a gentle boil.

Stir in the basil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 15 minutes.

My pasta tip:l-

Cook your pasta 2 minutes less than the package directions. Transfer it directly to the sauce with a splash of pasta water and toss over low heat for 2 minutes. This allows the pasta to absorb the sauce instead of just being coated with it. Trust me—it makes all the difference.

Finish with freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino Romano a drizzle of good extra virgin olive oil, and a few fresh basil leaves.
