Hamburger Buns

Hamburger Buns
1 C warm water
1/4 C warm whole milk
Splash of pure maple syrup (or 2 Tbsp sugar)
1 package active dry yeast
1/2 Tbsp salt
1/2 stick butter, softened
1 egg
3 C flour (I like bread flour and/or all-purpose)
Instructies
Mix together the warm water, warm milk, maple syrup, and yeast. Let bloom for 5-10 minutes (it should be foamy).
Mix in the salt, butter, and egg. Add a cup of the flour at a time and knead until dough becomes soft and stretchy.
The dough will be tacky, but shouldn’t be sticky. You can add a little flour at a time while kneading, but resist the urge to add too much. Just keep kneading for 5-10 minutes and it should come together.)
Place the dough in a bowl and let rise for about an hour, or until doubled.
Lightly flour your counter and divide into 8 balls (10 if you prefer less bun). Roll and gently press to flatten.
Cover and allow to rise for about 30 minutes, or until puffy. Preheat oven to 375 during this time.
If desired, brush with an egg wash (1 egg + a splash of whole milk) and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
Bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown. The buns will likely be hard at first, but will soften as they cool.
Allow to cool before slicing.
Store in an airtight bag on the counter for a few days, or up to a week in the fridge. Also freeze well!
