It’s jiuniang soup with pear, goji, and jujube.
A warm, nourishing soup made with only 4 ingredients.
So what is jiuniang? It’s basically sweet fermented glutinous rice. In TCM it’s gently warming and supports the spleen and stomach, which is why we often use it clinically when someone feels tired, cold, depleted, or just needs something easy to digest.
In TCM, jiuniang is also traditionally used for:
postpartum recovery
rebuilding energy
supporting digestion when you’re depleted
athletes and endurance training (especially for recovery)
Because it’s fermented, it develops a naturally sweet, slightly boozy aroma, but it’s usually very low alcohol, especially when cooked.
Fremgangsmåte
jiuniang (I do about 2tsp per bowl)
1 pear (sliced)
a small handful of goji
2 to 4 jujubes without the seeds
Add everything to a pot, cover with water, and boil for around 20 minutes.
But if you’re super crunched on time, add everything to a kettle with water and boil it all together.
Jujube helps tonify Qi and supports digestion.
Goji nourishes liver and kidney and supports blood and fluids.
Pear is cooling and moistening, so it balances the warmth of jiuniang beautifully.
You can eat it as a soup or drink it like a tea.
Breakfast or snack, it fits both. Simple, warm, and very nourishing. 🤍
Disclaimer: If you have any health conditions, are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, or unsure if this pattern applies to you, check in with a qualified TCM practitioner before using regularly.
