Perfect Sugar Cookies

1 c butter

1 1/2 c white sugar

3 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

3 1/2 c flour

2 tsp cream of tartar

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

Cream butter and sugar gradually. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating after each.

Combine dry ingredients. Add gradually to creamed mixture.

Chill 3-4 hours.

Roll to 1/4 to 1/8 thickness. Cut into shapes.

Bake on ungreased sheets about 8 minutes.
