Grandmama’s Pound Cake

3 cups sugar
2 sticks butter
6 eggs
3 cups all purpose flour, sifted
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
Dash salt
1 tbsp vanilla * REAL, not imitation
1 tbsp almond*
1 cup sour cream
* you can use 3 tbsp of vanilla if don’t want almond flavor
Upute
1st step: cream butter (room temp) and sugar together (use bare hands)
2nd step: using electric mixer, Add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each addition
3rd step: Add flavoring and dry ingredients (salt, powder and soda)
4th step: Sift 3 cups flour, alternating with sour cream.
Mix well.
Bake 375 for 15 mins.
Reduce heat to 325 for 1 hour.
More cool add lemon glaze icing

This was Ganny Mallory’s “Sour Cream Pound Cake,” and mom made it her own. We always had it at Christmas with boiled custard. She also brought it to the beach on summer vacation. My friend Leigh always ate it for breakfast at Hilton Head.
