200g Medjool dates (peeled and deseeded)
200g roasted hazelnuts*
1 cup milk
3 tbsp alkalised cocoa powder
Optional: vanilla extract, few drops
Method: Cover dates with boiling water for 10 minutes, peel the skin and remove the stone. Patiently blend roasted hazelnuts in a high speed blender. Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend till you reach smooth consistency. If you want thinner spread, add more milk.
Note: Hazelnut is an allergen, so introduce with caution. Cocoa shouldn’t be given to babies below 1 year. Also alkalised (not raw) cocoa should be used, because of microbial risk and taste. The consistency of this spread can pose choking risk if given as such (eg. On a spoon). To prevent this, spread it thinly on crepes or toast.
