Swedish Ham, Potato, Dill and Cheese Bake
6 servings
portions1 hour 30 minutes
temps totalIngrédients
4 slices ham
dry dill weed
1 onion, thinly sliced
3-4 large (potatoes), 1/4 in thin slices
2 cups milk
1 cup half-and-half or 1 cup light cream
4 eggs
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
pepper
1 -2 dash nutmeg
2 -3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
In a 2-quart baking dish (or a rectangular if using 6 ham slices), arrange a single layer of ham (you may have to cut up the slices to fit them). Sprinkle with dill weed. Top with a layer of potatoes, then another layer of ham, sprinkling each with dill weed.
Bake potatoes and ham in dish for 20 min (do not add egg and cheese yet). (This modification allows us to use raw potatoes, rather than pre-cooked. You can skip this if you have pre-cooked potatoes.)
Combine milk, half-and-half, eggs, cheese, pepper, nutmeg and Worcestershire sauce and mix well. Remove casserole from oven. Pour over the ham and potatoes. Replace in oven.
Bake at 375°F for 1 hour or until firm. Cool at least 30 minutes, or long enough that the mixture holds together when sliced. Cut into slices and serve.
Notes
I baked the ham/potatoes for 20 min before adding the egg mix, instead of cooking the potatoes ahead of time. I also sliced the potato’s very thin and also added thinly sliced onions with the potato layers. - modifications have been added into the recipe already.
