2 1/4 cups warm water
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
3 TB sugar
3 eggs beaten, 2 TB reserved
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 TB salt
6-7 cups all purpose flour
Poppy seeds
Instructions
Mix yeast with 1/4 cup warm water and 1 tsp sugar and set aside about 10 minutes. Stir into mixing bowl with 2 cups warm water, along with rest of sugar, eggs, oil and salt. Add the flour a cup at a time, stirring to make a smooth better. When it gets heavy, turn onto counter and knead the rest of the flour in until the dough is satiny/smooth. Put dough in an oiled bowl, turn once, then cover. Set aside until doubled, about an hour.
Push dough down, divide in half and then each half into three parts. Braid two loaves. Put on oiled pan/parchment until doubled... about 45 minutes.
While rising, preheat oven to 375°. Once risen, add 1 TB water to remaining egg and brush over loaves. Bake about 35-45 min… you will need to watch this so you know how your oven is cooking it
Notes
This is a great bread to take someone. Everyone loves it. It makes great French toast and is easy to double the recipe. We always do it in a Bosch mixer but you can do it with no mixer at all
