Ingredientes

Bars:

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp sale

1/4 tsp ground black pepper

Pinch ground clove

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

2/3 cup packed light brown sugar

1 large egg

1 tbsp light or dark molasses

2 oz stout

1 1/2 tsp freshly grated ginger

Frosting:

2 tbsp unsalted butter

2 cups confectioners' sugar

4 tbsp whole milk

1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract

Pinch sea salt

Instrucciones

Preheat the oven to 350F. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper so that one inch extends beyond the edge of the pan on all sides.

Stir together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and clove in a medium bowl. Set aside.

Blend together butter and brown sugar in an electric mixer on medium-high until light and creamy, about 3 minutes. Scrape the sides of the bowl as needed. Mix in the egg and then the molasses. Continue with the mixer on medium-low to medium as you add the beer. The batter may appear a bit lumpy. Add the ginger.

Gradually add the dry ingredients a little at a time with the mixer on low. Increase the speed to medium and mix just until all the ingredients are combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spead evenly. Bake for 28-30 mins, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the bars cool completely.

While the bars cool, begin the frosting. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Swirl the butter in the pan as it forams and as dark specks begin to form and you smell a nutty aroma, 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool.

Add the cooled browned butter to the bowl of an electric mixer. Add the confectioners' sugar, one cup at a time, and mix until dry and crumbly. With the mixer on low, add 1-2 tbsp of milk. Turn the mixer to high and whip the frosting. Add the additional milk, a little at a time, to reach a spreadable consistency. Mix in the vanilla and salt.

Frost the cooled bars evenly and cut into 9 squares before serving. Bars can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
