Vegan “meat” (seitan) Recipe

Ingredientes

1 cup (120 g) vital wheat gluten

30 g (about 1/4 cup) nutritional yeast

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon cumin

Black pepper, to taste

Optional) 1 tablespoon soy sauce or 1 tablespoon mustard

1/2 cup (120 ml) water (add gradually)

Oil, for frying

Instrucciones

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl.

Add the water gradually, mixing as you go, until you get a firm dough. It should not be wet or sticky, but smooth and firm.

Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes until it becomes elastic and well combined.

Slice the dough into thin pieces (they will expand while cooking).

Place the slices in a frying pan with a bit of oil and some water.

Let them simmer for 10-15 minutes.

Allow the water to evaporate. Add a bit more oil if needed, then fry the seitan until golden brown.

You’re done! Add salt and pepper to taste if desired.

This is a simple base recipe. Feel free to experiment with extra seasonings in the dry mix to create different flavors.
