Best Homemade Tortillas Made with Butter (better Than Lard

Make sure to put olive oil on the comal or any cast iron surface you’re using for a richer taste. These are quick, cheap, and easy. You’ll never buy store-bought again.

Ingredients (makes 12 tortillas)

5 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1½ teaspoons kosher salt

1 cup hot water

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add in the butter and rub it into the flour mixture with your hands until it looks sandy and crumbly.

Slowly pour in the hot water and stir until the dough begins to form.

Knead just a few times until smooth, then cover with a damp towel and let it rest for 10–15 minutes.

Divide the dough into 12 even pieces and roll each one into a ball.

Roll each ball out very thin. You should almost be able to see through it.

Heat your skillet on medium, brushing it lightly with olive oil.

Cook each tortilla for 30–45 seconds per side, until bubbles form and golden spots appear
