Originally appearing in a 1922 cocktail book under the name "Fernet Cocktail" its name was ultimately changed to the Toronto. It's a slightly more bitter Manhattan riff and makes for a nice little fall sipper.

2 dashes angostura bitters

1/4oz Fernet

1 barspoon maple syrup (original calls for simple)

2oz rye (ideally Canadian but I didn't have any)

Add all of your ingredients to a mixing glass along with ice. Stir until chilled but not over diluted. Strain into a chilled glass. Express orange oils over the top and trim the peel for garnish. Cheers!
